Agricultural Practices

“We want to live off our land, and give something back, too.”

Protect your soils by following sustainable farming methods.

Use chemicals only when necessary, and learn about alternative methods of planting, fertilizing and harvesting your crops.

Look for water sources on your land, and monitor and protect them. If you own stock, think about fencing or other means to reduce degradation to stream banks and springs. Look at the water flows on your land and maintain the water table by reducing channelization and erosion. You may be eligible for restoration funds to rebuild meadows and stream channels. Many conservation resources exist for private landowners in agricultural areas.
